Cure for the Winter Blues

Moxie Fab is having a "Cure for the Winter Blues" Challenge over at Moxie Fab World. There's a stamping technique that I've been wanting to try for a long time, so here goes:

The background was stamped using bleach on Papertrey Ink Enchanted Evening cardstock. I found the technique here. When the bleach started working, it bleached it to exactly the color of PTI Fine Linen.

AAaahhh.... matchy-matchy. My friend Shawn would be proud. She's the queen of matchy-matchy.

I used Unity Stamp Co/ Simple Stories Generations and Faith sets, Prima flower, PTI die and ink. I really like how flat everything is. This might actually fit into an envelope now!

Familiarity

This is Toby.

This is Jack.

These are two of the most neurotic dogs ever to grace this earth, but they love the daylights out of absolutely everyone. I could learn a few lessons from that.

Everytime Unity comes out with another Phyllis Harris release, I have to get it because of these silly dogs.

My dogs both spent their first three years of life like this one. It's amazing that they made it past puppyhood, considering some of the things they ate.

I'm using this for the monthly Unity Challenge to use hearts without using red/pink as well as today's Friends with Flair. I'm really grateful for the time to make anything crafty because it lets my brain process for a while.

Technical Difficulties

Due to technical difficulties, there will be no completion of homework today. Darn you, stupid hackers!

In the meantime, I will play in the Unity Kit of the Month Sketch Challenge.

I was watching HGTV yesterday and saw one of the designers making wall art by blowing ink around on a canvas. It looked like fun, so we tried it:

My 7-year-old and I took alcohol inks and blew them drop by drop onto photo paper. It dries so quickly that I threw this together, easy peasy. Although, the blowing of the ink was about all my little neat-freak mind could take.

Chiclectic...orange?

This is probably the last color combination I would ever try. One of my favorite teachers in high school called orange a pale imitation of red, and I whole-heartedly agree. When I saw this week's Moxie Fab Tuesday Trigger, it took a while  for any inspiration to hit.

 

I like the rest of the colors, so in combination with Papertrey Ink's Make it Monday, here goes:

It's hard to tell from my picture, but I used the Mehndi Medallion impression plate to emboss the coaster after I dyed it with my re-inker. I love the Mehndi Medallions- they're so pretty.

Happy Friday, everyone! The one good thing about card rejections is that I have something to share when I haven't had time to do much crafting this week.

My baby sister is having her own baby- hence the command at the top of this post. I'm really excited for her. I love nieces and nephews because I get to play with them and then GIVE THEM BACK. It's great!

I've also been having fun looking at all the great baby stuff that's out there. My sister has oodles more patience than I do and will not be finding out the whole boy/girl thing until CC is born, so I get to look at ALL of the adorable baby clothes, but not buy. Yet.

The elephant is an itty bitty, the paper is from  Simple Stories (I think), and the twine is from the Twinery. My photography stinks, so you can't see the bit of glitter on the eye or tail, but that is from Doodlebug Designs.

Have a great weekend! It's p/t conference time combined with President's day around here, so I have kids home for 5 days straight. What to do, what to do!

Snowman Birthday

Helllooooo, Friday!

I'm taking a class right now where all of my classmates and I decided we'd rather have bigger weekly assignments than a collaborative final project. I'm all for collaborating, but as nearly all of my classmates live in Connecticut and I'm in Wyoming, this is not easy. So heavy assignments it is! I haven't had a whole lot of time or creativity this week, so I only the brain power for one card this week.

My bell choir director friend wears lots of snowmen and since her birthday is in February, I brought out my January 2011 KOM. I love that thing. It's probably my most used because of the sentiments. Also, I can double-duty this one for the KOM sketch challenge.

I hope I can find more time this next week. I miss my crafting stuff. Sleep, who needs it?!

I love this itty bitty, but when I colored the bear, he didn't look very cozy, so I tried flocking for the first time.

1. It was my first time.

2. I'm sure I did not use the right glue.

3. There is glitter in the flock, and that was the only kind available.

4. The directions recommended heat setting for a more permanent set, and he's now not as cozy looking.

I also tried white flocking on the girl's polka dots, and now it looks like one of those shirts that is really really comfy, but should not be seen outside of the house.

On the plus side, there was an article in our local paper about a group of women who don't have any skills and life is really hard for them for whatever reason. Someone found a grant, and now this group makes their own paper and cards to sell, they get paid for their work and they sell their cards at a flower shop. I had a ridiculous amount of card-making supplies, so I took them a boxful so it won't just be sitting in my craft room. I found the lace paper I used above when I was sorting through my hoard. My room is less cluttered and I got to help someone. Ah, that warm and fuzzy feeling!
